Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Skills - University of Hull

This course is designed to foster the development of enterprise or entrepreneurial skills for postgraduate students. It is offered to all postgraduate students as part of the University of Hull's postgraduate research training programme (which is a range of optional modules which postgraduate students can choose from).

The course is delivered entirely online using the University of Hull's virtual learning environment. Students work though a series of ten linked units. Content includes: problem solving and creativity processes (for example SCAMPER and Osborn-Parnes approaches), idea finding exercises, basic market research, idea shaping and solution finding, patents and intellectual property, social funding and cash flow, marketing an idea, preparing business plans, and launching a product and reflective learning. Each of the 10 linked units includes a short summative assessment with students submitting their work online via a 'drop box'. At the end of the course students produce a final project which includes a business plan and presentation to a potential funder.

Type Graduate Entrepreneurship
Impacts

This is the first time that the University has been able to offer a dedicated standalone postgraduate module on enterprise and entrepreneurship skills. The fact that students are able to study it entirely on line means that they can work through the materials at there own pace at a time and place at suitable for them. For this reason it has been particularly appealing to postgraduate research students who may not wish, nor be able, to attend taught classes.
