Let's hear it for FE!

It is almost a year now to the date since I joined EEUK as a Director with specific responsibility for FE. So much has happened!

In December last year we held the first FE focussed Enterprise Exchange event which saw good attendance from a range of universities and colleges including non-members. Big thank you to those who came and delivered including Sheffield College, Kirklees College and Coleg Cambria – it was a really great day with so many ideas shared and highlighting the fantastic work that takes place in FE around the UK. With this in mind… watch this space for FE centric events and webinars coming soon!

So what else…

In March, I wrote an article for inTuition which is a professional journal for practitioners in FE and training providers which explored Enterprise and Entrepreneurship as innovative practice and a state of play of the times in which FE operates. You can read the full article here.

Whilst FE colleges have been hit, perhaps the hardest in recent years with changes and reduction / nil existence of funding streams, the need for colleges to exert those enterprise skills and entrepreneurial flair has never been more apparent. FE has always been good at responding and adapting – in light of the Brexit trigger and impact on international student recruitment as a growth area for many colleges, particularly those with HE arms. The skills and entrepreneurial thinking that I know you have will need to support colleagues and management teams to address issues faced - I have every faith there are solutions in perceived adversity!

A big welcome to Leeds City College for joining the network.
