Time Flies!

Time literally does fly, and as I was writing this blog I asked myself “where did my year as Chair of EEUK go”?

Well, what a year it has been! The fallout from Brexit, a general election that no one expected and a Higher Education Sector that is going through the most significant changes I’ve experienced in the last decade. And the last point is where a lot of time and energy as Chair, representing you our members, has been spent. Whether it was working with Universities UK on Student Enterprise; BEIS on the Industrial Strategy or the British Council in showcasing EEUK in Beijing – the focus has always been to ensure the voice of Enterprise Educators is duly represented (and heard) to inform and shape future policy.

In an ever changing (and challenging) environment whoever said the job of enterprise educators was easy?! However, one take-away as Chair is just how strong the EEUK community is, and more importantly how resilient it is in such circumstances. Whenever I’ve spoken about EEUK the feedback has always been glowing – “it’s like a family, so welcoming”; “everyone is open to sharing and collaborating” and “I’d be lost without it” are just some of what members and non-members (who subsequently joined) have said.

If there’s one sector I know that can deal with anything it’s enterprise and, as enterprise educators, you are changing lives and communities and truly inspiring the next generation, and that role will be increasingly important to allow us all to navigate our way through challenging and exciting times.

Finally, it’s been a true honour and privilege to serve as your Chair and I would like to take the opportunity to thank all my colleagues, well friends really, on the EEUK board and all the EEUK members for making my time as Chair so rewarding. I look forward to seeing you all at IEEC in Glasgow, where we will formally welcome Dr Sarah Underwood as EEUK Chair and Jon Powell as Vice-Chair – both of whom will do a great job.

Have a great summer break.
