Northumbria University - March 11th 2011
Both academic and practitioner audiences have been debating the topic of entrepreneurship education for a number of years: particularly the question of whether it can be taught at all has been discussed widely and catchphrases such as 'born vs. made' or 'nature vs. nurture' have been used widely to describe the essence of this debate.
On March 11th 2011, we collaborated with HEA-BMAF and Northumbria University to consider 'Entrepreneurship Teaching and Learning – the student experience', hosted by Newcastle Business School at Northumbria University. The event was attended by 34 educators from across the UK and was a mix of presentations and interactive workshops.
The first presentation and workshop 1: How can we teach entrepreneurship at a HE Institution? The student experience, was facilitated by Dr Stephanie Macht and led into a workkshop so that the audience could immediately explore aspects of Steffi's research and exchange with each other best practice from their institution. A student guest speaker added views from his perspective and the workshop groups were lively (see photos), to say the least.
The second presentation and workshop: Exploring the impact of entrepreneurial team teaching methods upon students' entrepreneurial learning (Vijay Vij and Steve Ball) explored a variation on entrepreneurial learning. The input of students who had experienced the programme informed the discussions in the workshop – again lively and thought provoking.
