Summary

This event brought together practitioners and academics to share, debate and identify best practice in supporting graduate entrepreneurs to build sustainable businesses. A strong emphasis was placed upon the sharing of examples and outcomes from a range of institutions and environments in order to identify commonalities and "what works".

Coventry University, the 2011 Entrepreneurial University of the Year, has a successful history of developing both academic programmes and support projects to encourage entrepreneurship and business start-up.

Event contributors from the Scottish Institure for Enterprise, the National Centre for Entrepreneurship in Education and Coventry University, provided a national and international perspective on the challenges and initiatives in place to support the graduate entrepreneurship agenda.

Delegates who attended this event had the opportunity to consider how students are supported through the curriculum and through extra-curricular activity and, during the 'soap box' session towards the end, students from Coventry University reflected on their own experieneces of enterprise and entrepreneurship eduction and how this has already supported their entrepreneurial ventures.

Speakers and facilitators included:

  • Fiona Godsman, Chief Executive, Scottish Institute for Enterprise
  • Dr Gideon Maas, Director Institute of Applied Entrepreneurship, Coventry University
  • Dr Joan Lockyer, Principle Lecturer, Coventry University
  • Tom Williamson, Senior Lecturer, Coventry University
