Background and summary

This event focused on sharing best practice in embedding Intellectual Property (IP) education in curricular and extra-cIMG 0452smallerurricular enterprise education in universities and colleges.  The day launched with a presentation by Professor Andy Penaluna who is a strong advocate for the embedding of IP education in the student experience. Andy has worked with and advised the Intellectual Property Office (IPO) in a number of programmes since 2007. Andy was a member of the team that developed the IP Tutor and most recently he was an assessor for their StudentshIP awards. Recipients of these awards then presented a range of approaches to developing and embedding IP education in their institutions.

There was a panel session where an LSBU student and IP Attorney provided a range of perspectives on why they believe it is important to embed IP in the student experience. There were plenty of opportunities for delegates to share their own ideas and success stories related to IP teaching and learning and colleagues took part in some lively practical sessions. Delegates can be seen in the image discussing what the IP issues might be for the 'Trunki' and 'Kiddee Case'.

Delegates went away with practical examples and tools to use inside and outside the curriculum in their own institutions.

Panel members:

Paul Bettridge of Carpmaels & Ransford LLP and Amy Emanuel, IT student at LSBU
