University of Huddersfield

Huddersfield 1                         Huddersfield 2

One of the University of Huddersfield's main aims is to develop employable and enterprising graduates. We've been doing this for many years, through embedding enterprise in the curriculum, delivering enterprise skills workshops and business start-up events, and through the University's dedicated student and graduate business start-up unit: the Enterprise Team. In 2012, we were awarded the Times Higher Education award for Entrepreneurial University of the Year. The award recognises institutions that have embedded entrepreneurial activity into the fabric of their institution to which fosters enterprising thinking and delivers significant entrepreneurial impact.

The Enterprise Team delivers a wide range of support opportunities for current students and recent graduates of up to 5 years with both pure commercial and socially motivated business aims. The team is based in the Duke of York Young Entrepreneur Centre, which was officially opened by HRH The Duke of York in May 2013. This state of the art facility provides free hot desk office facilities with printing, landline telephone and bookable meeting spaces. We also support the development of International Graduate Businesses through the Tier 1 Graduate Entrepreneurship scheme in collaboration with our International Office.

We are a leading University for live projects and student placements in industry, and offer an Enterprise Placement Year where sandwich year students can explore setting up their own business rather than working for someone else. This well established programme is now offering a new sector specific programme for computer game developers in collaboration with the School of Computing and Engineering. We also provide opportunities for students to gain enterprise skills linked to their studies through schemes such as a student-led podiatry clinic, and our Canalside Studios games company.

We offer two innovative research degrees – a Masters of Enterprise and an Enterprise Doctorate – for research needed to underpin a new business, social enterprise, or service innovation. We also offer a BA in Enterprise Development for undergraduates looking to start-up a business. This is one of the first new venture creation degrees to be provided in the UK at undergraduate level and still only one of a small number across the world.
