The University of Buckingham is unique. It is the only independent university in the UK with a Royal Charter. It is also probably the smallest university in UK, with around 1100 students. Honours degrees are achieved in two intensive years of study (8 terms).
As an independent university we must be entrepreneurial in our approach and as a result we are also "student oriented", coming first in the National Student Survey for the last 6 years. We also came 21st in The Times 2012 Good University Guide, ahead of several Russell Group universities.
Our innovative BSc Business Enterprise (BBE) programme offers students the opportunity to start and develop their own business, as an integral part of their honours degree. Within 6 months of starting the programme, undergraduates are establishing their own business, which they run whilst continuing study for their honours degree, during the following 18 months.
On graduation our BBE students can buy the businesses for a nominal sum and continue to develop them. Our graduates have also returned to manage family businesses, started their careers working in companies or have gone on to Masters Programmes.
