Aston University

Founded in 1895 by the employers of Birmingham, and a university since 1966, Aston is a research-led university based in Birmingham’s city centre. We are renowned for our close relationships with business and industry – and these relationships inform our teaching and graduate outcomes, high-impact research and business support programmes.

Aston has an outstanding record of fostering and promoting enterprise and entrepreneurship amongst its staff, students and graduates. Increasingly our academics across five schools are working to embed enterprise and entrepreneurship into our curriculum, thus providing all students with the opportunity to develop their enterprise awareness, entrepreneurial mindset, capabilities and effectiveness.  The university also offers a wide range of extra-curricular enterprise workshops, hackathons, pitching competitions and inspirational speakers.  It has a thriving Enactus and Entrepreneurs society.

The University also contributes to entrepreneurship within the West Midlands region through the Aston Centre for Growth which offers leading growth programmes and other opportunities for SME owners looking to grow their business.  Aston University has held the Small Business Charter since 2014, reflecting its expertise in SME engagement. We have experience of working with hundreds of SMEs to support their business growth, with investment ready pitching competitions, through BSEEN the collaborative student and graduate focused start-up support project and incubation centre, part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund and on high profile programmes such as Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses.
