Royal Agricultural University

“From student societies to organised workshops and awards, the RAU provides all our students with the opportunity to develop their own business idea and receive the tailored support they need to reach their maximum potential.

For the past seven years the RAU has been committed to enhancing the entrepreneurial experiences available to our students.

Students have the opportunity to enter the Grand Idea Awards, the University's annual business ideas competition. This provides students with an excellent opportunity to explore their business ideas. Entrants are helped to produce a short business proposal and supporting pitch which could ultimately win them the £1,000 Grand Idea Prize.

The Grand Idea holds a series of events throughout the academic year to help inspire budding entrepreneurs. This starts with a series of 'Inspirational Entrepreneurs' coming to the University to talk to students about how they have achieved success and offer advice about following their own business dream. Previous competitions were launched by Levi Roots, from Reggae Reggae Sauce and Will Chase from Tyrell’s Crisps and Chase Distillery.

They can also join our Student Entrepreneurs Society where they can meet like-minded students or get involved with running a real life social enterprise, Muddy Wellies Drinks, a range of ales and ciders, all of which are selected and branded by the student body at the RAU. This provides a fantastic opportunity to develop key employability skills, knowledge and experience. The proceeds from Muddy Wellies are re-invested in our First Steps Proof of Concept scheme, through this fund we support our budding entrepreneurs with a small grant to test and develop their business ideas.

We welcome all students to get involved and unleash their ideas during their time of study at the RAU.”
