Wilson review and draft QAA guidelines published

The 28th of February 2012 is a red letter day for enterprise and entrepreneurship with the launch of two major reports – the Wilson Review of Business-University Collaboration, and the draft QAA Guidelines for Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Education.

The Wilson Review was commissioned by the Government in 2011 and announced in the White Paper for Higher Education “Students at the Heart of the System”.  It was written by Professor Sir Tim Wilson and supported by an advisory group including EEUK’s Prof Andy Penaluna. EEUK also contributed to the review via a response to a thinkpiece on Enterprise and Entrepreneurship

EEUK gets special mention in the Review, both for our members’ support of enterprise education, and as a founding member of the Enterprise Alliance.  The QAA Guidelines for Enterprise and Entrepreneurship are also highlighted – Andy is the Chair of the QAA panel producing the guidelines which also includes our current EEUK Chair, Dr Kelly Smith.

The Review makes several recommendations relevant to enterprise and entrepreneurship educators and notes:

Universities should reflect on the strategies they use to ensure that students have the opportunity to develop enterprise skills both through the formal curriculum and through optional study or practice and also reflect on the integration of enterprise education in the professional development programmes for academic staff.

The need for enterprise education for postgraduate research students was particularly stressed and links in with EEUK members’ work through a EEUK Enterprise Education and Research Grant to the University of Huddesfield [], and a forthcoming EEUK Best Practice Event in Loughborough on May 31st.  Keep an eye on our News and Events pages for details.

The draft QAA Guidelines have been released for comment too and feedback on these should be directed to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. by 24th April.
