Background and summary

EEUK Enterprise Exchange events are one day best practice style mini conferences where educators and practitioners come together to share and exchange good practice and expertise related to enterprise and entrepreneurship education.

This event focused on sharing good practice in embedding Intellectual Property (IP) education in the student experience in universities and colleges.  The day launched with a presentation from the Intellectual Property Office (IPO) to provide an update on resources available and the background and context for its funding of StudentshIP awards in ten UK HEIs.

This was followed by a talk from Professor Ruth Soetendorp about research undertaken by the IP Awateness Network and the NUS. Recipients of awards then presented case studies and, in Lancaster’s case led a practical and fun session play testing their ‘Black Swan’ game that was developed using StudentshIP funding (see image). Delegates were offered free copies of Black Swan after the event.

There were plenty of opportunities for delegates to share their own ideas and success stories related to IP teaching and learning and colleagues were encouraged to discuss the importance of IP in enterprise education and reflect on their own practice.
