Entrepreneurship has long been a significant strand in the teaching across all subject areas at Regent’s University London, as well as a notable quality among the University’s 3,800 students. Two-thirds of Regent’s students and alumni aim to develop their own ventures or family businesses, and many create start-ups while they are still studying. The Hive, opened in 2018, is a bright new centre on the Regent’s Park campus where students and alumni can work on their business ideas, gaining inspiration from each other, as well as support from the University’s Careers & Business Relations (CBR) team. The Hive offers valuable free central London collaborative working space for up to 12 users, coupled with access to a range of training and mentoring from CBR specialists and external professionals. Regent’s sponsors up to 20 international students each year on the Tier 1 entrepreneurial visa scheme, enabling alumni to remain in the UK for up to two years following graduation. The Hive is also home to Junior Enterprise Regent’s (JER) a student-run company giving students the opportunity to gain experience of working on enterprise projects.
