he Business Incubator & Accelerator at RAU is known by the brand Farm491 and is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Royal Agricultural University. Following UK and EU funding, the RAU’s Farm491 was commissioned in mid-2016 as a specialist agri-tech business incubator to facilitate the launch of start-ups and the growth of SMEs in farming, food production, land-management and environmental sectors. Farm491 is recognised nationally, and internationally as a focus for innovation and new thinking in how to address many of the challenges facing the agri-food and land-based sectors.
Farm491 support agri-tech and agri-food entrepreneurs in converting their idea or technology into a viable and successful business. This is achieved through Farm491 membership, which provides access to a network of mentors, investors, service providers and farmers, as well as active in-house support to help businesses find the root cause of any hurdles, and establish a plan of action in order to increase the probability of success.
Farm491 is now looking to appoint a Head of the Business Incubation & Accelerator who will be responsible for leading all activities at Farm491, including developing and implementing the Farm491 strategy to meet challenging business growth plans. They will drive, promote, and develop the activities of Farm491 locally, nationally, and internationally and develop both its core strengths and also new opportunities. Other key responsibilities will include managing and developing all aspects of the business incubation and acceleration activities, to meet members future development needs as well as leading, managing, and developing a multi-functional team fostering a culture of empowerment and innovation to achieve challenging targets and service excellence.
This is a challenging position for a suitably qualified and experienced professional with commercial awareness who will play a major role in the development of Farm491. You will be an experienced business developer with a track record of supporting business start-ups/projects/business incubators and accelerators. You will have the ability to devise, drive and deliver vision and strategy for a business opportunity. Experience of proposal and bid writing, contract management and team management are all essential requirements. An interest or experience in agri-technology or finding solutions to agricultural, land management and food supply chain challenges are desirable, but not essential for this role.
