Anglia Ruskin University

Anglia Ruskin Enterprise Academy (AREA)delivers a programme of enterprise and entrepreneurship activities; in curricular, extra-curricular and co-curricular while developing new learning resources to engage more students in enterprise and entrepreneurial training.www.anglia.ac.uk/area

We have two StartupLabs, one in Cambridge and one in Chelmsford where students can go to network, work on their business idea/project, and benefit from the additional support of a Mentor. Our Tier 1 (Graduate Entrepreneurs) are also encouraged to attend all extra-curricular activities. www.anglia.ac.uk/startuplab

Our suite of extra-curricular activities comprises:

‘Be Your Own Boss’– 12 interactive seminars/workshops delivered once per week in Chelmsford and Cambridge (also on Face book live) delivered by expert speakers covering topics such as marketing; team building; finance; pitching skills and of course the overall business plan. Each event provides plenty of opportunities to network with fellow students and our guest speakers.www.anglia.ac.uk/beyourownboss

All of the Be Your Own Boss seminars/workshops support our other activities:

Social Storm– an out of the classroom, experiential learning activity, where participants are challenged to apply theory to a real life problem in a 24-hour hackathon style event. Students work with universities across the globe to find solutions to social problems as identified by the United Nations.

Going it Alone– these surgeries are delivered by experts to enable students who are thinking about freelancing or being self-employed to book their one to one hour-long session.

Design Make Sell– is a programme developed by NACUE and offered by AREA. Students work in teams to design and develop a product for sale to the general public. Interactive workshops delivered by industry experts support students along the way.

The Big Pitch– is our business ideas competition where students compete for a prize pot of £10,000. www.thebigpitch.co.uk
