The Policy in your Practice

Written by Alison Price

Enterprise Educators draw from a wide range of policy documents to deliver for their students, colleagues, and their institution and its communities. But in reality, not all policy initiatives create real change in practice.  However October saw English HEI metrics coming to life as Universities UK and GuildHE invited HEIs to sign up to the KE Concordat. Committing to the principles opens each institution up to a process of self-evaluation and action planning that ultimately should support the sector in its understanding of the approaches to KE policies, practices and strategies.  Policy will inform practice as institutions learn from those outside their cluster group and gain insights to different approaches.

Start-up Heat Map Europe are also focusing on the realities of practice to understand “what works” in terms of developing eco-systems. By featuring cities and tech, this interrogatable website uses survey data and social media to understand how founders feel.  Using this approach, they have just released a new report women entrepreneurs which focuses upon what accelerates starts in practice.

EEUK is proud to announce the launch of a new global initiative to showcase the use of EntreComp within Education: Entrecomp supporting the educational missions.

By recognising how the Entrecomp framework can supports each of the three institutional missions (learning and teaching, research and knowledge exchange/’third mission’) Dr Margherita Bacigalupo has worked with EEUK to help shape a new resource to benefit the sector.  By creating a specialist online library of Entrecomp case examples, curated by EEUK and populated by the sector, a new Entrecomp companion resource (such as Entrecomp at Work provides to the labour market) will be formed. This practice showcase will form part of the acclaimed ETCToolkit providing a free to access repository of examples that evidence how EntreComp has supported the work of enterprise educators across FE/HE.  So, if you have been using EntreComp for planning, policy, IP or teaching then get in touch to be one of the first to share your case study.  Contact us now for the latest details and get involved!
