Loughborough University: Launch of new Start-up Lab

This autumn sees the launch of a brand new focal point at Loughborough University that supports entrepreneurial students to develop businesses, and local companies to prosper. Thanks to funding from Santander Universities Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Fund, the University will create The Start-up Lab: an incubator, accelerator and training space for students and local businesses. The Loughborough Enterprise Network already includes The Hub in the Students’ Union and The Studio, based at the University’s Science and Enterprise Park. The Start-up Lab is the missing piece of the puzzle to equip students with the skills and support needed to develop business ideas. Read the full story here.

 

University of Kent: £50,000 for Digital Reboot

The University of Kent has been awarded a grant of £50,000 by the Santander Universities Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Fund to support students in developing digital business start-ups. The University will use the money to run a ‘Digital Reboot’ – a series of events, activities and business collaborations to meet the growing demand for digital start-up business support and to enhance employability skills.The Digital Reboot will build on the existing digital media activities of the University’s Hub for Innovation and Enterprise, with the main focus of the programme centred around the development of ideas from students, staff and recent alumni. Birkbeck: Celebrating Pioneer Programme with pitching and awards evening

‘Pioneer’ is Birkbeck’s extra-curricular enterprise module for students interested in starting a business or developing their entrepreneurial skills. The course kicked off during Global Entrepreneurship Week and took 40 students through a series of monthly skills workshops, delivered by entrepreneurs and experts across a range of topics. Students could enter their business ideas into the Pioneer competition and 6 finalists made it through to pitch their ideas to a judging panel this month to win the 2018 categories: Best Business Idea and Best Business Pitch.
