Sustainable Society SIG Webinar: Fireside Chat – “Hygge, Heritage & Sustainable Enterprise”

11:00 am - 12:00 pm 12/12/2025

A Year-End Virtual Social with Sally Charles & Highland Heritage

Join us for a warm and reflective end-of-year gathering in the spirit of HYGGE – the Danish concept of cosy contentment, connection, and wellbeing. This relaxed virtual social offers space for like-minded colleagues to unwind, share energy, and celebrate the simple pleasures of community as we close the year together.

Featured Conversation: We open the social with an intimate Fireside Chat with Sally Charles, Fellow of EEUK and Enterprise Programme Manager at University of Oxford and Guy Phillips, CEO Highland Heritage Woodworks, Dunecht, Aberdeenshire.

Sally and Guy first met through an accelerator programme at Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen. Since then, Guy has developed Highland Heritage Woodworks into a thoughtful, sustainability-driven business whose story will feature in an upcoming case study collection on sustainable enterprises. Sally is developing a compact case study proposal on Highland Heritage Woodworks and this conversation will explore the sorts of issues which a case could focus on.

Together, Sally and Guy will explore:

  • The origins and evolution of Highland Heritage Woodworks
  • How sustainability sits at the heart of the venture
  • The challenges and opportunities of building a values-led rural enterprise
  • What the business seeks to achieve for community, environment, and future generations

This conversation sets the tone for a session focused on reflection, inspiration, warmth, and connection, to gather our thoughts as we draw close to the end of 2025. It is also ideal for people considering a compact case study to the book proposal which is promoted on the EEUK Sustainable Society SIG LinkedIn page.
