Supporting Entrepreneurship Education across the Disciplines: How to Build Communities of Practice that Work

UCL School of Management, One Canada Square, Canary Wharf, University College London and online

Friday 21st April 2023, 10.00am-4.00pm

Summary

This hybrid Enterprise Educators event is organised by members of the UCL Entrepreneurship Community of Practice to engage participants in practical discussions and activities around building effective communities of practice in higher education.

The UCL Entrepreneurship COP (COP) is an interdisciplinary community of staff who have a deep passion in entrepreneurship education. We share the aim to promote and enable entrepreneurial mindset & skills as a core part of UCL life and beyond.

Our COP is made up of more than 100 members across the 11 faculties of UCL and brings together academic colleagues alongside those working in entrepreneurship in many areas of the university such as Innovation and Enterprise, Careers, Business. Because of this, we are growing a community which is becoming more diverse to support entrepreneurship education in more inclusive and innovative ways.

We want to engage you, Enterprise Educators members, with the benefits and challenges of interdisciplinary working across your institutions, through dialogue and activities which encourage you to think outside your own areas of activity. We will share the benefits and challenges we face, with a view of extending the conversation on supporting entrepreneurship and enterprise education across disciplines.

Our workshop intends to

  • extend the breadth and depth of participants’ knowledge of community building across their own institutions in enterprise and entrepreneurship education through exchange of information
  • provide practical tips and information for institutions wanting to build their own “communities of practice” based on best practices
  • enable colleagues from the enterprise and entrepreneurship education community to extend their professional networks and to explore opportunities to work together

We will do this through:

  • lightning talks from our own COP members from different parts of UCL (hybrid);
  • break out Q& A sessions on the ‘big questions’ around how participants and their institutions support the building of communities (in–person only)
  • sharing of best practices, where we invite attendees to share their own work in these areas (hybrid)

The ‘in person’ event will take place at UCL School of Management in Canary Wharf. The school is based on Level 50 (yes, the 50th floor!) and offers attendees a vibrant space that blends traditional education and modern business environments with breath-taking views across London.

Attendees who register will be sent updates on our range of speakers, tools we’ll use to facilitate online interaction and other information in due course.
