Sustainable Society SIG Webinar: Enterprise and Entrepreneurship for What? Unsettling opportunity, purpose and organising for a sustainable society

3:00 pm - 5:00 pm 18/11/2026

What is enterprise and entrepreneurship education (EEE) for at this time? In line with discussion at the AGM of the Sustainable Society SIG, this event builds on previous work around sharing and amplifying good practice and shifts to questioning underlying assumptions in order to provide space to explore the tensions inherent in EEE and nurture bold and critical thinking for its future.

Enterprise Educators UK’s Sustainable Society Special Interest Group (SIG) is very pleased to be joined by two guests whose work will open up a discussion about the logics, purpose and focus of enterprise and entrepreneurship education at this time.

Professor Jill Kickul is from Tecnológico de Monterrey in Mexico, where she is the Distinguished Professor in Social Entrepreneurship for the Business School and EGADE Business School. With colleagues, she recently published Baking in purpose: How activist pedagogies can transform Entrepreneurship Education for Collective Impact.  This paper highlights that climate collapse, deepening inequality and systemic instability require creative and interdisciplinary collaboration, yet dominant models are stuck in venture-creation mode. Jill will set the scene for the session, opening the conversation from within enterprise and entrepreneurship education and the challenges and possibilities it faces.

Professor Bobby Bannerjee is from Bayes Business School, where he is a Professor of Sustainability in the Faculty of Management. His work with colleagues on ‘organising in a post-growth era’ brings together literature from ecological economics, sociology and political ecology to identify principles for organising a more just and environmentally sustainable future. Bobby will expand the discussion by bringing his perspective in from outside the field and pushing us to think about what follows if venture creation is no longer the presumed destination.
