Sustainable Society SIG Webinar: From Concepts to Lived Experience: Designing Immersive SDG Learning in Higher Education

12:00 pm - 1:00 pm 14/05/2026

How do we move students from understanding the Sustainable Development Goals to truly experiencing them?

This session explores how immersive learning can deepen student engagement with global challenges. Using the Durham University “Venture Lab Summer Innovation Fellowship” as a case study, it will highlight how experiential, challenge-led programmes can build innovation mindsets while tackling real-world issues.

Drawing on practical examples and insights from delivery, the session will outline key design principles for effective immersive experiences and how to apply them across higher education contexts. Attendees will leave with a clear framework and inspiration to embed more impactful, SDG-focused learning into their own teaching and programmes.
